What Are Chemical Peels?

A chemical peel uses a chemical solution to remove damaged skin cells, to reveal healthier and more youthful skin. Different chemicals determine the depth of the peel and type of skin condition being treated. Chemical peels brighten your skin, improve your overall complexion, reduce or improve fine lines and wrinkles, acne, scars, uneven skin coloring and other skin imperfections. What Can I Expect During My Appointment?

Your esthetician will ask about your concerns and skin care goals before beginning. Once expectations have been set, we are ready to begin. There are typically 4 steps of a chemical peel treatment. 1- A thorough cleanse. 2- A pre-treatment solution is applied. 3- The application of the peel. Depending on the peel that was chosen, multiple layers may be done. Or after a number of minutes, the peel will be removed. 4- Post care products and SPF will be applied. Your esthetician will finish by going over post care instructions so you can get your best results.

How Long Do Results Last?

Lighter chemical peels, like lactic and glycolic, exfoliate the top layers of the skin. These results will typically last about a week and can be done every couple of weeks.

Our more aggressive peels target the deeper layers of the skin. These will have long term results after multiple treatments. These should be done every 3-4 weeks. Most people will need 3-6 treatments to achieve their goals. Using proper home care will help you get the most out of your treatment and extend your results.

Do Chemical Peels Hurt?

The sensations you feel depend on the strength of peel used. You can typically expect to feel prickling and/or heat, itching, and feeling tight. We use a fan to help make your treatment more comfortable. Within a few minutes these sensations will dissipate and you will feel back to normal before you walk out the door.

Is There Any Downtime or Recovery After This Treatment?

Our lighter peels are non-invasive, so besides a little redness that typically is gone by the time you get home, there is no downtime or recovery. Some patients will report having a little dryness and flaking, but no actual peeling. For our more aggressive peels you do have some social downtime. Most people are red for about 24 hours, followed by 3-7 days of peeling. The peeling process can be as minimal as just some slight flaking, or can be like shedding like a snake! It depends on how much skin there is to exfoliate, as well as how in-depth we go with your peel. You and your esthetician can decide together what the best options are for you!

We recommend using medical-grade skincare products all the time! We carry Alastin, Skinceuticals, Skinmedica and GlyMed. A few of our staff and clients favorites are GlyMed’s Mega Cream Cleanser. Alastin’s C-Radical Defense, Regenerating Skin Nectar, Restorative Skin Complex and Renewal Retinol. Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore. And of course, you should always apply a SPF daily. We recommend Skinceuticals Daily Brightening UV Defense for a glowy finish or Alastin’s Hydratint for the perfect hint of color.

How do I choose my peel?

We have 3 levels of peels to pick from. Mini Feel The Peel is great for first timers, if you don’t want any downtime, or just want to brighten your complexion. Full Feel The Peel is a bit more aggressive. This is great if acne is a concern or if dark spots or irregular pigment is your concern. Mega Feel The Peel is our newest addition to our peel selection. BioRePeel Blue is a 35% TCA that has little down time. This peel will address every concern you have. For the best results it is recommended to do a series of 4 every 7-10 days apart. If you still are unsure of what peel to pick, schedule a consultation with one of our estheticians.
